In a viral Reddit post, an Amazon customer faced a frustrating and confusing situation after ordering a PlayStation 5 (PS5) Slim on January 5, only to receive an old, defective PlayStation 3 (PS3) instead. The incident began when the customer received the product on January 7, but the condition of the package raised immediate concerns.

According to the customer, the box was in poor condition, and upon closer inspection, they discovered that the manufacturing date on the PS5 was listed as November 2023, which seemed odd for a newly released product. Prompted by these concerns, the customer contacted Amazon customer care to initiate a return process.

On January 15, when the pickup was scheduled, the customer claims the delivery person opened the package for the first time in front of them. To their surprise, inside the box was a PS3, not the PS5 they had ordered. As a result, the pickup was not completed, and the customer was left without a resolution.

Despite multiple attempts to reach customer support and numerous chats, Amazon arranged a second pickup for the return. However, after the pickup was completed, the customer received a shocking update: Amazon placed a hold on the refund, claiming that they had shipped the correct product and refusing to issue a refund.

The customer provided Amazon with evidence, including pictures taken from the time of delivery and the moment the delivery person opened the box. Despite this, Amazon has allegedly told the customer that they cannot guarantee a refund.

The customer expressed frustration, saying, “My only fault is that I panicked seeing the box and didn’t open it right then. I waited for the delivery guy (the fraud) to come and open it for me.”

This incident has sparked concern among other shoppers, highlighting potential issues with product accuracy, returns, and refunds. The customer is now left waiting for a resolution, hoping that Amazon will address the matter and refund their money.

Amazon has not yet responded publicly to the customer’s claims or the hold on the refund.
