Sam Altman, who married his long-time boyfriend Oliver Mulherin in 2024, welcomed his baby in February this year. The 39-year-old bought a smart crib for his baby and took to social media to recommend the very same crib to all parents. The crib is made by a Bengaluru woman’s startup, Cradlewise, that operates in India, Canada and the US.
“We bought a lot of silly baby things that we haven’t needed,” wrote Altman on X (formerly Twitter), adding that he “recommends a Cradlewise crib”.
Altman further expressed, “…and a lot more burp rags than you think you could possibly need.”

According to Patil’s LinkedIn, Cradlewise is a DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) brand funded by SOSV – an American venture capital firm. It manufactures “an intelligent crib with integrated baby monitoring system that learns from babies’ sleep patterns, spots early signs of wake-up and rocks the baby to sleep along with soothing music – just like a parent”.
The company has received recognition from the TIMES as the Best Inventions of 2020. A smart crib from the company costs around Rs 1.5 lakh and
Radhika Patil, who is based in Texas, US, holds a Master’s degree in Electronic Design from IISc (Indian Institute of Science). She completed her Bachelor’s from Stanford University, USA, in 2009.
She worked for Qualcomm as a Windows Mobile Engineer for three years before launching her startup, Cradlewise.
According to Founderoo, Radhika and her husband Bharath Patil launched Cradlewise after welcoming their first child, Anushka. They noticed that most smart cribs available in the market soothe the baby once they are up, rather than detecting early signs of awakening.
