Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps, has come under fire after a video from Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent went viral on social media. The episode, which featured creators Ashish Chanchlani and Apoorva Mukhija, took an unexpected turn when Allahbadia posed an unsettling question to a contestant.

During the show, Ranveer asked, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?” The inappropriate remark sparked outrage across social media platforms. A formal complaint has been filed against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina and the organisers of the show ‘India’s Got Latent’ following a series of alleged controversial and offensive remarks made on the show, ANI reported.

The complaint, registered with both the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, alleges that abusive language was used on the show. The complainant has demanded strict legal action against the accused.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis took stock of the incident and said action should be taken on this. “I have come to know about it. I have not seen it yet…Everyone has freedom of speech but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others…In our society, we have made some rules, even for vulgarity, and if someone violates them it is absolutely wrong and action should be taken against them,” he said.

Journalist and author Neelesh Misra condemned the remark on X and posted, “Meet the perverted creators who are shaping our country’s creative economy. I am sure each one has a following of millions. This content is not designated as adult content — it can be seen with ease even by a child if the algorithm takes him or her there. The creators or the platform have zero sense of responsibility.”

Many netizens are outraged over the lack of accountability in digital content. Some users also pointed out the irony of Allahabadia being honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Disruptor of the Year award at the 2024 National Creators Award. One user commented, “On his podcast, he aligns with Sanatanis for views and revenue. But his actual values don’t reflect the principles he preaches. Forget spirituality—his views lack even basic civic sense. This is unacceptable.”

Another wrote, “Ashwini Vaishnaw, you gave an award to this man. Hope you can take it back. Without regulating such content, India cannot claim to be a ‘Vishwaguru’.”

As the backlash grows, neither Ranveer Allahbadia nor the makers of India’s Got Latent have issued a statement addressing the controversy.
