Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries (RIL), recently shared a valuable piece of advice with students at the 12th Convocation of the Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU). In a viral video, Ambani emphasized the importance of critical thinking while utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
“Regarding artificial intelligence, my advice to young students is this: You should excel in using AI as a tool for learning, but never let go of your own critical thinking,” Ambani told the students.
He also urged students to rely on their own intelligence as they progress in life. “Use ChatGPT, but remember that it’s not through artificial intelligence, but through your own intellect, that you will move forward in life,” he said, continuing in Hindi, “ChatGPT ka jarur se istemaal karo, lekin yaad rakho artificial buddhi se nahi khud ki buddhi se hum aage badhenge aur aap aage badh sakte hain.”
Ambani’s remarks came as China’s AI model, DeepSeek, made waves in the tech world. DeepSeek launched its own large language model, DeepSeek-R1, which rivals those of OpenAI, Google, and Meta, but at a fraction of the cost. The app quickly became the most downloaded free app on Apple’s App Store in the US, challenging ChatGPT’s dominance and impacting global tech stocks.
However, concerns have arisen over DeepSeek’s privacy practices after a screenshot of its policy went viral. The policy states that DeepSeek collects user input and stores some data on servers located in China.
In the meantime, Reliance is reportedly investing in AI technologies, including acquiring advanced semiconductors from NVIDIA, a leading AI tech developer. Ambani is also set to build the world’s largest data center in Jamnagar, which is expected to boost India’s AI capabilities.
As part of their collaboration, Reliance and NVIDIA announced that NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI processors will equip Reliance’s one-gigawatt data center. This partnership was revealed at the NVIDIA AI Summit in October 2024, where NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang remarked that India should focus on manufacturing its own AI. Ambani responded by saying, “Apart from the US and China, India has the best digital connectivity infrastructure.”
