The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has demanded an immediate ban on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent following controversial remarks made by YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps. According to ANI’s post over X (formerly Twitter), the association has called for strict legal action against those responsible and urged the authorities to implement stricter regulations on digital content.
What is the Ranveer Allahbadia controversy?
In a February 10 statement, AICWA condemned the show, calling it “deeply disrespectful to societal and family values.” The controversy erupted after Allahbadia asked contestant Jessy Nabam an inappropriate question on the show, which even took host Samay Raina—known for his dark humour—by surprise. The clip quickly went viral, sparking public outrage.
Allahbadia later issued a public apology, admitting that his comment was “not just inappropriate, but not even funny.” However, the backlash continued, with a complaint being filed against him, Raina, and other participants of the show with the Maharashtra Women’s Commission and Mumbai Police, demanding legal action.
AICWA’s statement urged the Indian film industry to sever ties with everyone associated with the show, including Allahbadia and Raina. “These individuals will receive no support from the industry,” the statement read. The association also called on authorities, including Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to take immediate action.
Their key demands include:
- A complete ban on India’s Got Latent
- Legal action against Allahbadia, Raina, and the show’s producers
- Formal complaints against all involved
- Stricter regulations for digital content
AICWA emphasised that such content “poses a significant threat to the moral fabric of society” and urged the public to boycott the show.
