Countless posts about the “brutal job market” scene continue to flood the Internet, as more and more laid-off professionals pen their brokenhearted stories online. In one such SNS confession, an IIT alum opened up about the “depressing” circumstances they’d been subjected to in the last 7 months.
The post originally shared on Reddit found its way to X yesterday, with others helping to amplify the IIT graduate’s pleas. According to the original confessor’s post, the person in question was a mid-level manager at “one of the NIFTY 50 companies,” but was ultimately fired due to “restructuring.”

IIT graduate loses 70 LPA job in layoffs
Detailing their long professional track, the original poster (OP) revealed that they had 18 years of experience across several industries involved in implementing new technology. As per their own account, the Indian employee was earning around Rs 70 lakh per annum merely months back when they still had the job.
OP claims to have tried their luck on professional networking sites by spreading the word about how they were on the lookout for new opportunities. Despite having relied on “LinkedIn, Naukri, references, consultants,” their attempts to land a new job washed down the drain. OP even admitted to havin purchased “premium services” to improve their visibility and chances on such platforms.
Unfortunately, the person still didn’t get any significant response. “In the past 7 months, I have only got some calls from consultants and got only 2 interviews,” they added. Giving in, the person even reluctantly opened themselves to “lower pay” options. However, even doing that didn’t make much of a difference.
Laid-off Indian employee’s savings depleted amid job market crunch
The person felt as if everything around them was “crashing down.” What made matters even more difficult to tackle was that OP didn’t solely have to look out for themselves. “I have a family and everyone is so stressed and sad,” they wrote. The Redditor further disclosed that their family had recently purchased a bigger house, but ultimately had to rent it out to a tenant as they struggled to pay the EMI in light of them losing their job.
“Withing a month of this large expense, depleting all our family savings, I was laid off,” the person shared. In the wake of the dire phase of their life and shrinking savings, OP said just had “a runway of 2 months.”
