Biocon Managing Director Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has spoken out against widespread corruption in Karnataka, tagging CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar. She questioned how anyone could take pride in the state if its administration is deeply mired in corruption. Her remarks were in response to former Infosys CFO TV Mohandas Pai’s post highlighting the “most corrupt departments” in the country.

‘If police, regulators are so corrupt…’

“If police and regulators are so corrupt, how can we be proud of our state?” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). She also mentioned the social media handles of CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.

On October 1, Mohandas Pai tagged CM Siddaramaiah on X, questioning how he planned to tackle “rampant corruption” in the state. “Our leaders, who call themselves socialists and saviours of the poor, are not able to control corruption,” Pai wrote, before urging, “Sir, please fight corruption here.”

He also shared a list of “most corrupt departments in India”. As per the list, departments such as legal metrology, food, drug, healthcare, and others ranked as the “most corrupt”, followed by the labour and PF departments. Property and land registration or transfer officials were placed third, while excise officials were described as the “least corrupt”.

Along with his remarks, Pai shared a list of the “most corrupt departments in India.”

‘Madame Sitharaman this is not acceptable’

He later shared his views on Wintrack Inc announcement on social media that it would cease all import and export activities in India due to alleged harassment perpetrated by Chennai Customs officials.

“Madame Nirmala Sitharaman, this is not acceptable. You have failed to stamp out systemic corruption in our ports. Please stop this,” he wrote on X.

Recounting how she and Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised a “corruption-free rule,” Pai fumed, “You have also failed to stop tax terrorism.”

Highlighting the numbers Sitharam mentioned in her last budget presentation, he continued, “I hope you have seen it. Rs 30l cr stuck up in tax disputes, 15 cr said to be recoverable- ~80% + in last 5 years!” before adding, “15l cr deemed non recoverable- no assets, no assessee. Please act.” He also tagged Home Minister Amit Shah in his post.

In a follow-up post, he wrote, “Please act and save taxpayers.”
