A worker in Singapore made waves this week after resigning via a roll of toilet paper. The post has since gone viral with many sharing personal anecdotes and reiterating calls improved conditions in the workplace
“I have chosen this type of paper for my resignation as a symbol of how this company has treated me. I QUIT,” read the handwritten message scrawled onto a scrap of toilet paper.
The unnamed worker further explained that he was resigning after feeling ‘discarded’ by his employers. The post was shared on LinkedIn by Angela Yeoh — the director of a Singapore-based company earlier this week and quickly went viral. It has since garnered thousands of reactions and comments, sparking a heated debate about workplace ethics and dignity.
“I felt like toilet paper — used when needed, then discarded without a second thought. These were the exact words that stuck with me,” Yeoh recounted in her post.
It was not immediately clear whether the undated ‘resignation’ note was a representational image. Yeoh also did not specify when this had happened or which organisation had been involved. Some on social media however admitted to using similarly ‘unique’ methods while resigning from previous jobs while others rued their missed opportunities to quit via toilet paper.
“Unique, I respect it. I did something very similar a long while ago,” revealed one user.
“Your title just hit the nail on the head with my current experience. I should have used toilet paper instead of paper for my resignation letter,” fumed another.
“If you feel like the company is making you feel small or unimportant, remember – that’s not necessarily a reflection of them, but rather something you need to address within yourself. Confidence comes from believing in your own worth. When you lack that belief, it’s easy to feel like others are mistreating you,” reminded a third.
