Over the last 24 hours, three very different topics have grabbed massive attention on Google Trends. These topics include a mix of internet humour, cinema news and public concern over official messages from the Income Tax department

The keywords “67 meme”, “Sreenivasan” and “Income Tax Department” have seen a sharp spike in searches, with hundreds of thousands of users looking them up to understand what’s happening and why everyone is talking about them.

67 meme: Why the internet can’t stop searching “67”

The “67” or “6-7” meme has exploded online, turning a random phrase into a full-blown internet joke. What pushed it further was Google itself joining the trend. When users type “67” or “6-7” into the search bar, the screen briefly shakes, copying the hand movement often seen in meme videos. This fun Easter Egg works on both mobile and desktop and has triggered countless reaction videos across Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).

The meme originally came from the 2024 song Doot Doot (6 7) by Philadelphia rapper Skrilla. The phrase doesn’t really mean anything, which is exactly why people find it funny.  Its popularity grew even more after NBA star LaMelo Ball, who is 6 feet 7 inches tall, became linked to the trend.

Since then, “67” has been used in memes, short videos, and even shouted during basketball matches when a team hits 67 points.

Sreenivasan: Searches surge after Malayalam cinema legend’s death

Searches for “Sreenivasan” rose sharply after news broke that the veteran Malayalam actor, screenwriter, and filmmaker passed away at the age of 69. He died on Saturday at a hospital in Kochi after battling a prolonged illness. Fans across Kerala and beyond turned to Google to read about his life, career and contributions to cinema.

Sreenivasan was one of the most respected names in Malayalam cinema, known for sharp satire, strong social commentary, and memorable performances. Over decades, he shaped some of the industry’s most iconic films, including Nadodikkattu, TP Balagopalan MA, Sandesham, Chithram, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Arabikkatha, Udayananu Tharam, Njan Prakashan, and many more.

Income Tax Department: Why taxpayers are searching for clarity

The Income Tax Department also became a top trending topic after many taxpayers received unexpected SMS and email alerts. These messages asked individuals to review certain transactions and correct their income tax returns if needed, which led to confusion and concern among the public.

The department later clarified that these communications are not penalty notices. Instead, they are meant to inform taxpayers about transaction details already available with tax authorities and give them a chance to voluntarily fix any errors.

The clarification came after reports of a crackdown on fraudulent tax claims, especially those linked to fake donations to unrecognised political parties or charitable organisations.
