A Chinese delivery worker has managed to earn Rs 1.42 crore (US$160,000) over a period of five years, leaving the internet in surprise. The story, shared in the South China Morning Post (SCMP), has left readers in disbelief. Known ‘order king’, 25-year-old Zhang Xueqiang has now garnered praise online for the magic he did in the past five years, since 2020.
He first came to Shanghai for work. In 2020, a breakfast that he and his friend operated in his hometown of Zhangzhou, Fujian province, southeastern China, closed. Then, he was in debt of $7,000.
This November, he shared a video on social media stating that he had earned 1.4 million yuan from his delivery work in the past five years. Zhang paid off his debts, and after deducting everything – he still saved 1.12 million yuan, according to a local daily, reported SCMP.
How did Zhang do so?
In an interview to the local daily, Zhang said he never had any big expenditure except for the basic daily necessities. “I work for about 13 hours a day, seven days a week. Other than eating and sleeping, I spend all my time sending food to customers,” he told the outlet.
He worked everyday, except for a few days during the Chinese Spring Festival holiday. And he would plan the day already. He ensured 8.5 hours of sleep to keep his energy intact. His day would start at 10.40 am and finish at 1am the next day.
The report mentioned that in some months, Zhang would take more than 300 orders, with each taking an average of 25 minutes. Through his deliveries, he covered a total distance of 324,000 km.
Zhang – The ‘Great God’ or ‘Order King’
Those who work with Zhang call him “Great God” or the “Order King” – a person who does not talk a lot, but has “devoted himself to delivering food”.
“I have never seen him walk; he is always running,” a colleague told the outlet. “In our industry, a worker can earn more money by working harder. Zhang is a rare case who works extremely hard and is thrifty,” the person added.
Zhang now plans to open two breakfast shops in Shanghai in the first half of next year with $113,000 that he has with him.
