Team India cricketer Rinku Singh got engaged to politician Priya Saroj on Sunday. The ceremony was held at a hotel in Lucknow with some of the biggest names from the cricketing and political worlds in attendance. Visuals from the event have since gone viral and show the newly engaged duo flaunting their rings amidst an array of well-wishers.
The update comes months after their families confirmed the relationship — noting that talks remained underway to iron out the engagement and wedding timeline. Tufani Saroj — a sitting MLA from the party and the bride’s father — had told news agency ANI that both Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj had sought their parents’ permission.
“Both the children have expressed their desire to get married and have sought our permission for the same. The engagement has not taken place yet. Initial talks have taken place in this regard,” he had told ANI a few months earlier.
Visuals that surfaced online on Sunday show several political leaders including Samajawadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his wife MP Dimple Yadav in attendance. Other notable attendees included senior politicians Rajeev Shukla, Jaya Bachchan, Shivpal Yadav, Rajgopal Yadav, and cricketer Bhuvnesh Kumar. BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla was also spotted in some of the clips from the event.
“Today is a day of great pride and joy… The wedding is taking place with the consent of both families… It is a matter of great pride for us that an international wedding is taking place for the first time in my community,” her uncle Bhagwati Saroj told ANI.
“Priya Saroj is our sister. The ceremony was good. I wish them all the best for this new inning,” added former Indian cricketer Praveen Kumar.
Singh played for the Kolkata Knight Riders during the recently concluded edition of the Indian Premier League — scoring 206 runs at an average of 29.42 with a strike-rate of 153.73. He is also party of the Indian T20I team and scored 507 runs over 30 matches and 22 innings. Meanwhile his fiancee is a first-time Member of Parliament who won the Machhlishahr seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
