Habitual prankster Jack Schlossberg‘s recent social media trip took a more serious turn. Keeping his jokes and ludicrous SNS love confessions for Second Lady Usha Vance aside, the grandson of former President John F Kennedy announced that he was boycotting this year’s Met Gala. In his social media tirade, the outspoken Kennedy scion hit it out against Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, who was his boss at one point as Schlossberg came on board as a political correspondent to cover articles during the 2024 election.
Jack Schlossberg boycotts Met Gala 2025
The Yale and Harvard graduate in his early 30s even attended Met Gala in 2017 alongside his mother Caroline Kennedy. However, he has different plans this year. “I love to party, and I’ve been to the Met Gala before. I had a great time,” he said in an Instagram video posted on April 24. “But this year, with so much happening around the world and at home, I cannot in good conscience go to the Met Gala.”
Directing his rants to the gala host and Vogue boss Anna Wintour in a video, he said, “Hey Anna Wintour, I’m sorry but I’m boycotting the Met Gala this year, I can’t go in good conscience with so much happening around the world and at home.” In a separate X post, Jack, who is known for his eccentric social media posts, targetted Vogue, urging them to “focus on issues and use their platform to take a stand.”
In another addition to the series of posts shared with the intent to push for the Met Gala boycott, he said that even though he “had the best time ever with the best date ever” at the Met Gala 2017, he was not going this time. “2025 not the time for that,” read the caption of one of his IG posts. Jack also shared a snap of himself and his mom from the “simpler time.”
“Fashion is political — so then why is Vogue so quiet?!” read another post. “Vogue shouldn’t be so scared of my boycott of the Met Gala they should focus on issues and use their platform to take a stand. Corporate interests often succeed in making fashion less attractive and relevant. Boycott.”
Ultimately, he advantageously used the boycott call-out posts to promote his new project. In a previous post, Schlossberg revealed that he was launching a live news channel, with features possibly expected to release “9 PM EST. Every Tuesday and Thursday Evening.” The message carried forward in one of his April 24 posts, where he tagged @voguemagazine, adding that instead of going to the Meta Gala he “will produce something informative on (his) own news channel.”
Report says JKF grandson was never invited to the gala
Contradicting Jack’s claims of sitting out the 2025 Met Gala, a source told Page Six that he never actually received an invite to the “Oscars of Fashion.” Schlossberg, who is a staunch critic of his cousin Robert F Kennedy, is believed to have merely been his mother’s plus one at the 2017 event.
Another insider argued that JFK’s grandson’s former Vogue connection wasn’t a worthy-enough reason to land him a Met Gala invite. “He was a freelancer who had an assignment covering the election, that’s certainly not a reason for him to attend,” they said.
“The Met Gala is a fundraiser where every single seat is paid for by a designer or a brand and the only way to get invited is by having that brand or designer extend you a seat at their table,” the source explained further.
About the 2025 Met Gala
Colman Dolimngo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams will join Anna Wintour as co-chairs at the gala. Meanwhile, NBA legend LeBron James will act as an honorary co-chair this year. Time Magazine reported that the exhibition – “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” – following the gala is inspired by the 2009 book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” by Monica L. Miller and will focus on how the evolution of tailoring ultimately led to “the formation of Black identities.”
This year’s gala dress code “Tailored for You” is also a nod to menswear and suit tailoring, marking the first time menswear will take centre stage at the event since 2003 celebrated the “Men in Skirts” theme. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is expected to make his Met Gala debut. The guarded fashion night is slated for May 5, while the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” spring 2025 exhibition will run at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from May 10 to October 26, 2025.
