A video of a boy swimming outside a mall in Mumbai’s Goregaon has gone viral on social media. The video, which was taken by a passerby from inside the car, shows the boy making most through the flooded streets.
‘People are swimming outside mall’
”This is the scene in front of Goregaon Oberoi Mall, which is supposed to be the most posh area,” wrote one social media user while sharing the video on X (formerly Twitter).
He added, “God bless this country and its corruption.”
The video opens to show a boy using a waterlogged road as a swimming pool, doing flutter kicks. As the video goes on, the man who is recording the video says, “People are swimming outside Oberoi Mall.” It also shows other children wading in the water and other people who are standing outside the mall, apparently waiting for their rides to come. The camera then pans to show the waterlogged street.

‘When did Disneyland open?’
One social media user responded to this video and asked, “When did Disneyland open?”
“Just 2 days of this rain and major cities of the world will crumble… we’re still ok. And this street is not that posh, btw,” said another. To this, the person who originally posted the video replied, “Dear, this is Mumbai, and it should be clean, and its drainage system should be world-class. There’s no excuse for this, sorry.”
One sarcasm-dipped comment read: “New mall with swimming pool.”
A fourth commented, “Look at all the garbage floating around, which would have probably been thrown by deranged Indians, leading to the choking of all drains. None can save a civic sense lacking populace.”
Mumbai weather
Mumbai has been receiving heavy rainfall for the past few days, which has inundated streets and brought the city to a standstill. Flight and train services have been impacted. Central Railways suspended services on the Harbour line due to submerged tracks. Airlines have also issued travel advisories for travellers.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued red alerts in Pune, Satara, and Palghar in Maharashtra, orange alerts in Nashik, Thane, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Kolhapur.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared a holiday for all government and semi-government offices in Mumbai, and ordered private offices to allow employees to work from home, except for those in essential and emergency services. It also urged people to avoid unnecessary travel.
