When it comes to Bollywood’s biggest names, most people think of superstar families like those of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, or Karan Johar. But surprisingly, none of them hold the title of the richest family in the Indian film industry. That distinction belongs to Bhushan Kumar and the T-Series family, who have a staggering net worth of over Rs 10,000 crore, according to the Hurun India Rich List.
Bhushan Kumar, the son of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar, currently heads the company alongside his uncle, Kishan Kumar, who is also the chairman. Though not actors themselves, the Kumar family has built one of the most powerful empires in Indian cinema, both in music and film production.
T-Series, which began as a music label, has grown into a film production giant responsible for backing some of the biggest hits in Indian cinema, including Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Dangal, 3 Idiots, Aashiqui 2, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, War, and Chennai Express.
The family’s influence extends beyond the boardroom. Bhushan’s wife, actor-director Divya Khossla, and siblings Khushali Kumar and Tulsi Kumar are also active in the entertainment business, contributing to the brand’s visibility and reach.
Following the Kumar family, the second richest in Bollywood is the Chopra family, which owns Yash Raj Films and BR Films, with an estimated net worth of Rs 8,000 crore. Shah Rukh Khan, the ‘King of Bollywood’, comes in third on the list.
Despite the lack of traditional superstar status, the Kumar family’s dominance in both music and film production has secured their place at the very top of the Bollywood wealth pyramid.
