India rose a spot up to third in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 points table following their narrow six-run win over England in the fifth Test at The Oval on Monday. This win resulted in India drawing the inaugural edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2, after having won the second Test in Birmingham and drawn the fourth game in Manchester
With two wins and a draw, India currently holds 28 points and a percentage of points won (PCT) of 46.67. Before the fifth Test, India ranked fourth in the WTC score table. India had lost one Test at Leeds and another one at Lord’s.
Conversely, England dropped to fourth place in the standings after their defeat at The Oval. The English side dropped a spot in the table due to the two points they lost because of their slow over-rate during the Lord’s Test.
Who leads the table right now?
Australia (100 PCT) leads the WTC 2025-27 standings, having commenced their campaign with a mounting 3-0 victory against the West Indies in Jamaica. Australia is closely followed by Sri Lanka (66.67% PCT) on the score table. Earlier this year, Sri Lanka secured a sensational 1-0 home series win against Bangladesh.
Bangladesh and the West Indies are yet to register a win in the current WTC cycle. Whereas New Zealand, Pakistan, and defending champions South Africa are yet to start their campaigns for the current WTC cycle.

How do World Test Championship rankings work?
The current cycle of the World Test Championship involves 9 contestants, namely India, Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the West Indies.
Each team will play six series, out of which three will be played at their home and three away. A series can have two to five Test matches. Teams will earn points based on match results. A win gives 12 points, a draw gives 4, and a tie gives 6. In case of a loss, no points are awarded or taken from the losing team.
How are points calculated?
The standings are based on the percentage of points won (PCT), not total points. This helps balance the score out for teams that have played different numbers of matches. The top two teams in the table will qualify for the final.
South Africa is the defending champion of the WTC. They won the 2023–2025 final against Australia at Lord’s. The race to the final for this cycle is presently underway.
India to face the West Indies next

The second match for the series will take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10 to 14.
Following their battle against South Africa, India is next scheduled to face the defending champions in November. The opener for the two-match test series will take place in Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens from November 14 to 18. Whereas the second Test is scheduled to take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
