On Tuesday, in Dharamsala, England defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs and recorded their first win in the ICC World Cup 2023. Dawid Malan smashed a 107-ball 140.
After posting a target of 364 for nine, Reece Topley (4/43) ran through the top order of Bangladesh. They could score only 227 runs in 48.1 overs. Litton Das (76) and Mushfiqur Rahim (51) showed some batting skills.
To take their team to a mammoth total, England’s batting stars Malan, Jonny Bairstow (52), and Joe Root (82) contributed significantly in the first half of the match.
Interestingly, the mighty batting power of England served as a reminder to its rivals in the first half. However, Bangladesh wilted after taking some early blows. They managed to score a mere 67 runs in the last 18.1 overs, losing five wickets in the game.
At the start of their chase, Topley struck thrice. Bangladesh could never recover after that. England derailed the Asian side and forced them into a damage-control mode.
For the remainder of the innings, the approach of Bangladesh was conservative. Tanzid Hasan (1) played a normal shot to be caught at slip off Topley. Najmul Hossain Shanto did no better. He played one away from the body and got out. The top order performed badly. However, Das did well to make a 66-ball 76.
As late as in the 43rd over, Bangladesh crossed the 200-run mark. They were soon bundled out.
Earlier, Malan continued his dream run in ODIs. He propelled England to a good score of 364 for nine. His 107-ball 140 became the cornerstone for his team. During the back-end of the innings, Bangladesh bowlers did make some sort of a comeback. England lost seven wickets for 68 runs.
