India women’s national cricket team is set to face Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 final on Sunday after dominantly defeating Bangladesh in the semifinal. Similarly, Sri Lanka reached the finals after defeating Pakistan in the semis. The final match will be held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka.

In a commanding performance, India defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the semi-final on Friday. Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana forged a formidable partnership to chase down the modest target of 81 with ease. Mandhana’s explosive 55* off 39 balls and Verma’s steady 26* saw India reach 83/0 in just 11 overs.

Earlier in the match, India’s bowlers were on fire, restricting Bangladesh to 80/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav were the stars with the ball, each claiming three wickets. Renuka’s opening spell (3/10) set the tone, removing key batters early, while Radha (3/14) kept the pressure on during the middle overs.

Bangladesh’s innings never really gained momentum, with captain Nigar Sultana’s 32 off 51 being the only notable resistance. Despite her efforts, wickets fell regularly, preventing any substantial recovery.

Brief Scores:

Bangladesh: 80/8 in 20 overs (Renuka Singh 3/10, Radha Yadav 3/14)

India: 83/0 in 11 overs (Smriti Mandhana 55*, Shafali Verma 26*)
