Mithun Manhas has been elected President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), following the board’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai today (September 28). He will replace Roger Binny. Along with Manhas, Rajeev Shukla was elected vice-president, Devajit Saikia as secretary, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint-secretary and A Raghuram Bhat as treasurer. The new office-bearers will oversee the administration of Indian cricket for the next term.

Who is Mithun Manhas?

Manhas, who turns 46 next month, represented Delhi and later Jammu and Kashmir. He played 157 first-class matches between 1997 and 2017, scoring 9,714 runs. His career also included 130 List A games (4,126 runs) and 91 T20 matches (1,170 runs).

Manhas captained Delhi during key phases of his career. He even captained a young Virat Kohli when he first broke into the side. His best came in the 2007-08 Ranji Trophy season, where he led Delhi to the title. In that season, Manhas piled up 921 runs at a commanding average of 57.56.

Post retirement roles

Manhas has been involved in coaching and administration after his retirement in 2016. The ex-cricketer has also worked with multiple IPL franchises, including Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

Manhas was also the batting consultant for Bangladesh’s Under-19 team. He is currently part of the BCCI sub-committee overseeing the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association.
