Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria clinched the women’s 57kg featherweight gold medal at the 2025 World Boxing Championships, beating Paris Olympics silver medallist Julia Szeremeta of Poland 4-1 on points. The victory made her the ninth woman to claim a world crown, along with legends like Mary Kom, Nikhat Zareen, Sarita Devi, Lovlina Borgohain, and others. For 24-year-old Jasmine, it was her third World Championship.

Lamboria has roots in Haryana and has boxing in her blood

Jaismine is from Bhiwani, Haryana, which is famously called Little Cuba for producing world-class boxers. She also has a proud sporting background, as per a report by Mint.

Her great-grandfather, Hawa Singh, won two Asian Games heavyweight golds; her uncles, Sandeep and Parvinder, were into boxing. Her grandfather, Captain Chandra Bhan, was a wrestler. She had already earned fame with a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was later recruited into the Indian Army for her sporting excellence.

Lamboria credits consistent work for Gold medal

Reflecting on her victory, Jaismine told Olympics.com, “This feeling can’t be expressed. I am so happy to be the world champion. After my early exit at Paris 2024, I went away and improved my technique mentally and physically. This is the result of consistent work for a year.”

The performance was a perfect comeback after her disappointing Olympic campaign. After losing the first round in the final, she adjusted brilliantly by using her reach, crisp grasp, and sharp combination to gain control.

At the medal ceremony event, Jaismine made a loud cheer and later stood with moist eyes as the national anthem was played in the arena.

India also had two other medallists, Nupur Sheoran won silver in the 80+kg division after a close 2-3 loss to Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska, whereas veteran Pooja Rani was awarded bronze in the 80-kg class.
