India’s ODI squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand is likely to be announced in the first week of January, with the selection process expected to conclude days before the white-ball tour gets underway on January 11.

The three-match ODI series forms part of an eight-match limited-overs assignment and comes at a key moment in India’s 50-over planning, with several senior players tipped to return to the format.

Selection meeting likely in early January

According to information available from a rival media organisation, the BCCI selection committee is expected to hold an online meeting around January 3 or 4 to finalise the ODI squad for the New Zealand series. While the board has already named India’s T20I squad, clarity on the ODI group is still awaited.

The timing would allow the selected players adequate preparation ahead of the opening ODI, while also aligning with logistical planning for the multi-venue series that runs through January 31.

Spotlight on senior players’ return

The ODI squad announcement is being keenly tracked, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set to be back in India. Their inclusion would lend experience to the side as India look to stabilise combinations following a packed international calendar.

The home series is also seen as an opportunity for the selectors to assess bench strength and firm up roles in the middle order and bowling attack.

New Zealand squads already named

New Zealand have already announced their squads for both formats, giving them an early start to preparations. Michael Bracewell will captain the ODI side, while Mitchell Santner leads the T20I unit.

With the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 set to begin on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka, the India-New Zealand series assumes added significance, making the impending ODI squad announcement a closely watched development in Indian cricket’s immediate roadmap.
