Rishabh Pant’s debut for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025 ended in disappointment as he was dismissed for a duck against his former team, Delhi Capitals, in their season opener in Visakhapatnam on Monday, March 24. Facing five consecutive dot balls before attempting a big shot on the sixth delivery, Pant struggled to find rhythm and lost his wicket in the middle overs. His subdued batting performance stood in stark contrast to the explosive innings played by his teammates.

Coming in at No. 4 in the 12th over, Pant had the responsibility of carrying forward the momentum established by Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran, who had stitched together a blistering 97-run partnership. With Marsh departing after a stunning 72 off 36 balls, LSG were on track for a massive total.

However, Pant appeared out of sorts from the start. He faced two dot balls against Mohit Sharma in the 12th over before shifting to the non-striker’s end as Pooran went on a rampage, smashing four sixes in a single 28-run over off part-time spinner Tristan Stubbs.

When Pant faced his former teammate Kuldeep Yadav, he struggled to rotate the strike, attempting risky shots, including a reverse sweep, during his brief six-ball stay. After failing to score off three consecutive balls, Pooran walked up to Pant, seemingly advising him to stay composed.

However, Pant persisted with an aggressive approach and attempted to clear long-off on the fourth delivery, only to be caught by Faf du Plessis.

His early dismissal turned out to be the turning point in LSG’s innings, as they lost momentum in the final overs. Pooran, who had been in destructive form, fell to a Mitchell Starc delivery in the very next over after scoring 75 off just 30 balls. Kuldeep Yadav further tightened the screws by removing Ayush Badoni in the 17th over, restricting LSG’s scoring opportunities.
