Prasidh Krishna has come onto the radar of getting trolled on social media after his repetitive expensive outings with the ball during the ongoing five-match bilateral series between India and Australia. In the third game, Krishna went for 68 runs in his four overs, choking runs at an economy of 17. He failed to defend 21 runs against Maxwell in the final over.
His selection is being questioned, and this is a tough phase for the young bowler who has only played five T20 games and 17 ODI games. However, with a large talent pool at their disposal, it is difficult for the selectors to make a choice between players. In this series, it is about picking up the three pace bowlers for the playing XI.
During the first two games, Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep and Prasidh Krishna were given a chance, while Avesh Khan was benched. Following Mukesh Kumar’s unavailability for the third game, Avesh Khan replaced him in the third game, while Deepak Chahar got a call-up to be a part of the team for the remainder of the series. Krishna and Arshdeep played all three games.
The only pacer to be tested in the series is Deepak Chahar now. Chahar played the last game for India in 2022. Deepak Chahar is known for his ability to swing the new ball. He has played 13 ODIs and 24 T20Is for India.
International Career
Deepak Chahar has 16 wickets in his ODI career so far in 13 games with an economy of 5.75. His T20 career has 29 wickets from 24 games, with an economy of 8.17. His best bowling figures in T20Is are 6 wickets for 7 runs.
Prasidh Krishna has played 17 ODIs for India, taking 29 wickets, and giving runs at an economy of 5.61. He has less exposure to T20Is, with just 5 games, taking 8 wickets at an economy of 11.
IPL Career
Despite fewer international games, both players have good IPL experience. Deepak Chahar has played 73 IPL matches taking 72 wickets, and giving runs at an economy of 7.93. His average is 28.04.
Prasidh Krishna has played 51 IPL games, taking 49 wickets at an economy of 8.92, averaging just below 35.
Who should play?
It is not worthwhile to get into a debate about who should play ahead of whom. Deepak Chahar is known for his swing, while Krishna is known for his variations and pace. It won’t be a bad call to play Chahar in the remaining two games, as he would be instrumental in getting wickets early in the powerplay.
Considering the long T20 season ahead, all the players will get sufficient time to showcase their talents.
