Daryl Mitchell, New Zealand’s batter, has secured the top spot in the Men’s ODI batting rankings, pushing Rohit Sharma to second place. The change came after Mitchell scored a century in the first ODI against the West Indies last week. Additionally, Mitchell has become the second New Zealand batsman to hold the No. 1 position for ODI batters, after Kiwi great Glenn Turner held the spot in 1979.
Rating points and positions
Following his recent century, Mitchell has 782 rating points, just one ahead of Rohit (781), whose reign at the top lasted around three weeks. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran dropped one place to third, while Shubman Gill (4th) and Virat Kohli (5th) remained unchanged. Shreyas Iyer moved up to 8th position.
Men’s Test Batting Rankings
After the opening Test between India and South Africa in Kolkata, several players from both sides climbed the latest Test batting rankings. South Africa’s skipper, Temba Bavuma, entered the top five for the first time in his career, rising two spots after an unbeaten 55 in the second innings.
Shubman Gill, climbed two places to 11th despite an injury, while Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto moved up four spots to equal 34th following his century in the first Test against Ireland in Sylhet.
On the bowling side, India pacer Jasprit Bumrah retained his No. 1 Test bowler ranking after taking six wickets in the first Test at Eden Gardens. Teammates Kuldeep Yadav (up two spots to a career-best 13th) and Ravindra Jadeja (up four places to 15th) also made notable gains.
