Rahul ‘The Wall’ Dravid may soon make a comeback to the world of the Indian Premier League. There’s a strong buzz around his appointment as mentor of present IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Latest media reports say that Shah Rukh Khan’s franchise has approached Dravid for what seems to be a swap.
On Tuesday, Gautam Gambhir, who had mentored KKR to their third IPL title, was officially appointed as India Head Coach by the BCCI. In case the reports come true, this will be the third time that Dravid will be associated with an IPL team.
Dravid has played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals in his previous stints. For RCB, he played between 2008 and 2010. He scored 1132 runs for the franchise. For RR, Dravid played 52 games between the period of 2011 and 2013 and smashed 1,324 runs at a strike rate of 108.88.
Later, Dravid was appointed as a mentor of Rajasthan Royals between 2014 and 2015. In this period, he had also served as a Team India’s mentor on the England tour.
Dravid, who has had an illustrious career, witnessed a perfect farewell after India won the T20 World Cup 2024. It was a perfect swansong for Dravid, who recently decided to reduce his T20 victory bonus for the support staff. As India Head Coach, Dravid used to draw an annual salary of Rs 12 crore. As IPL mentor, Dravid will have a chance of winning the trophy, which eluded him in his RR days.
