Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem set a new Olympic record in the Men’s Javelin throw with an incredible 92.97m in the final at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday. Nadeem, who made history as the first Pakistani to reach an Olympic final in athletics at the 2020 Tokyo Games where he finished fifth, continued to make his mark.

Nadeem’s day began with a foul on his first attempt, but he quickly recovered with a remarkable throw on his second attempt, breaking the Olympic record.

His first attempt saw him struggle, with a misstep during his run-up that forced him to restart. Despite adjusting his approach, he couldn’t land a legal throw. However, Nadeem more than compensated with his second throw, leaving the audience in awe as he found his rhythm.

India’s Neeraj Chopra, the gold medalist from the Tokyo Games, also started with a foul on his first attempt but managed a legal throw on his second, reaching 89.45m to secure second place in the standings.

The 12 finalists, who either surpassed the automatic qualification mark of 84m or ranked among the top 12 out of 34 competitors in the qualifying round, each had three attempts in the final. After these initial three throws, athletes are ranked by their best attempt, with the bottom four being eliminated. The remaining competitors then proceed to another round of three throws each.
