India at Paris Olympics Game 2024: India’s hopes for Olympic hockey gold have taken a hit as key defender and first rusher Amit Rohidas will miss Tuesday’s semifinal against Germany. Rohidas has been handed a one-match suspension following a red card issued during India’s quarterfinal match against Great Britain on August 4.
FIH Confirms Suspension
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed the suspension, citing a breach of the FIH Code of Conduct. According to the FIH statement, the suspension will affect match No. 35 (India’s semifinal), which means Rohidas will not participate, leaving the Indian team with only 15 players for this crucial game.
Rohidas was penalized nearly 40 minutes before the end of the quarterfinal after his stick unintentionally struck a Great Britain player. This disciplinary action comes as a significant setback for the eight-time Olympic champions, who are now facing a major challenge in their quest for gold.
The Indian team will need to quickly adapt their strategy and overcome this obstacle as they face Germany in the semifinal. With Rohidas absent, the squad must rally together to maintain their pursuit of Olympic success.
