Liverpool’s young football star, Diogo Jota, has passed away in a car accident. The Portuguese forward collided near Zamora in northwestern Spain with his brother, a Spanish state-owned TV station said on Thursday, as per Reuters.

Police officials reported that the scene of the accident pointed to a serious mishap. Although they could not officially confirm the names of the deceased, yet. The regional fire department of Castile-Leon, where Zamora is located, said on its website that a car crashed shortly after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames, with two men, aged 28 and 26, found dead.

It is speculated that his brother, Andre, who is also a footballer, was with him at the time. Jota, who tied the knot on June 28, played a key role in helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title last season and also contributed to their FA Cup and League Cup triumphs.

He joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and has since netted 65 goals in 182 matches across all competitions. On the international stage, he has represented Portugal 49 times, winning the UEFA Nations League on two occasions.
