Five-time champions Mumbai Indians are all but out of Tata IPL 2024 after Kolkata Knight Riders posted a decisive win at Wankhede Stadium on Friday. This was the first time in the last 12 years that KKR finally managed to breach Wankhede and beat Mi at the iconic venue. Mitch Starc made a roaring comeback as he picked him 4 wickets to propel the visitors to a brilliant victory in match 51. MI Skipper Hardik Pandya looked gloomy in the dugout. At number 9, MI are in the bottom of the IPL points table. Their chances of qualifying in the playoffs remain very low. They are almost out of this season of IPL. 

Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive fifty, Mumbai Indians faltered with the bat once again, managing only 145 runs in 18.5 overs while chasing a target of 170. Mitchell Starc’s outstanding bowling performance (3.5-0-33-4) resulted in the dismissal of Mumbai Indians’ tail-enders, securing KKR’s seventh win in 10 matches.

The win came despite a sub-par total of 169 runs that KKR managed to put on the board after MI bowlers sent back half the side back in the dugout. It was the 83-run partnership between experienced impact sub Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer that guided KKR to a decent total. Iyer was declared player of the match.
