There are many firsts in match 26 of Tata IPL 2024. Taking on high-flying Lucknow Super Giants, fledgling Delhi Capitals have created a record that no other team has managed to do so far. The Rishabh Pant-led squad became first in the history of Indian Premier league to defeat LSG while chasing 160+ runs. So far, LSG were never defeated while defending a score in excess of 160. Apart from this, this was the first time ever that DC defeated LSG. In their last three encounters, LSG had emerged victorious. With this win, DC have lifted themselves from bottom of the IPL points table to number 9. Now Royal Challengers Bengaluru are at number 10 with one win so far. 

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, LSG never really took off. Losing two quick wickets in power play, the home side got some boost from skipper KL Rahul’s knock. But DC bowlers were on fire tonight. Headlining the bowling unit was Kuldeep Yadav. Making a comeback after an injury, Yadav made sure that LSG never really got back in the game. He picked up three wickets. It was the 8th wicket stand between Arshad Khan and Ayush Badoni that lifted LSG to a 167/7 on the board. Statistically, they were in the safe zone as no team has ever been able to defeat them when chasing a target of 160+. But tonight, Ekana belonged to the Delhi Capitals.  

The blistering knock by debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was dropped at 24 by Ravi Bishnoi, demolished LSG’s bowling attack. Opener Prithvi Shaw provided the right start and skipper Rishabh Pant played a sturdy knock. In the end, Tristan Stubbs smashed a powerful maximum to seal the victory for the Capitals with 11 balls to spare. Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match.
