At Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, a high-stakes clash awaits as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face off against their southern rivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), on May 18. This encounter, often dubbed the El Clasico of the IPL, is not just about victory but a coveted spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. RCB fans, in particular, see this match as a crucial make-or-break moment.
Weather woes loom: IMD predicts heavy rain
However, their excitement might be dampened by the weather forecast. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rain in the city, with high humidity and a 90% chance of rainfall in the evening on May 18. From May 14-17, Bengaluru is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with occasional rain or thundershowers. The weather from May 18 to 20 will likely be partly cloudy with possible rain or thunderstorms.
In response to the gloomy forecast, fans are using memes to lift their spirits. RCB supporters are humorously pleading with the Rain Gods for a stroke of luck, while others lament their investment in IPL tickets, finding solace in laughter.

The impending showdown for a playoff spot is akin to a virtual knockout. Despite a rough start with seven losses in eight matches, RCB has shown resilience, winning their last five games. Now positioned sixth with 12 points, they face a formidable task against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s CSK. To secure a playoff berth, RCB must win by at least 18 runs or chase down the target within 18.1 overs.
If the match is washed out, CSK would advance to the playoffs, as both teams would earn a point, giving Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s squad 15 points, two ahead of RCB.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have already secured their playoff spots.
