IPL 2025 Match Today: As the Indian Premier League 2025 approaches the business end of the season, all eyes are on the high-stakes clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. The encounter, which could determine the final team to make it into the playoffs, features Hardik Pandya’s MI locking horns with Axar Patel’s DC in what is virtually a knockout fixture.
MI vs DC match
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals have had polar opposite campaigns this season. DC began the tournament in red-hot form, winning a string of matches in the early phase that kept them in contention despite recent stumbles. MI, meanwhile, endured a woeful start, struggling to find form or consistency. However, Pandya’s side staged a stunning comeback in the second half of the season, winning nearly every game except their most recent one.
With Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru already having booked their spots in the playoffs, only one slot remains. MI are better placed going into the game — a win will seal their playoff berth. DC, on the other hand, must win this match and their next to keep their hopes alive.
Wankhede pitch report
The Wankhede Stadium has been known for its high-scoring thrillers, and this season is no different. The venue has seen six matches so far, four of which have been won by the chasing side. MI themselves came close to chasing 222 against RCB earlier this season, losing by just 12 runs.
DC bowling coach Munaf Patel admitted that they will feel the absence of Mitchell Starc, whose pace and swing would have been handy on the Wankhede track that typically assists seamers under lights. Expect early movement for the pacers and a quick outfield to favour aggressive stroke play.
MI vs DC weather report: Will rain play spoilsport?
Despite the buildup and excitement, the weather threatens to overshadow the match. Mumbai has been lashed by heavy rainfall over the past few days. On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning, predicting thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds (50–60 km/h) in parts of the city.
In the event of a washout, both teams would share a point — a scenario that would favour MI but could spell disaster for DC.
Playing XIs
Mumbai Indians are expected to stick with their current playing XI, having found a winning formula in the latter half of the season. The only possible change could be based on pitch and weather conditions, with the team management likely to choose between Corbin Bosch and Mitchell Santner for the final overseas slot.
