Sunrisers Hyderabad has secured the retention of Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy, and Travis Head in preparation for the 2024 mega auction. Recognized as one of the top T20 batters globally, it appears that SRH has gone all out to retain Heinrich Klaasen, surpassing the Rs 18 crore threshold set for top retentions. Pat Cummins, who joined the team last season and is the second most expensive player in IPL history, played a crucial role in leading the team to the final after a couple of underwhelming seasons.
Franchises are permitted to retain a maximum of six players, with a total budget of Rs 120 crore allocated for both retention and the mega auction. If a team chooses to retain six players, they can include up to five capped and two uncapped players, following a 5+1 or 4+2 structure. Capped players are classified into three price brackets ranging from Rs 18 crore to Rs 11 crore, while an uncapped player can be retained for Rs 4 crore.
