The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced that Prasidh Krishna, the fast bowler, will not be participating in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Despite missing the previous edition due to injury, Rajasthan Royals had decided to retain him. Krishna recently underwent surgery for his quadriceps injury and will continue his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
According to the BCCI statement, the surgery on Krishna’s left proximal quadriceps tendon took place on February 23rd, 2024. He is currently under the observation of the BCCI Medical Team and will soon start his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. Consequently, he won’t be able to join the TATA IPL 2024.
Last year, Krishna was absent from the IPL due to a stress fracture but later returned to represent India in cricket matches. His most recent appearance for the team was in the New Year Test against South Africa in Cape Town. However, he sustained another injury while playing for Karnataka against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy, shortly after returning from the South Africa tour. Krishna has participated in two Tests, 17 ODIs, and five T20Is for India and is now focused on regaining full fitness.
In a related development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also confirmed that Mohammed Shami will not be participating in IPL 2024 due to undergoing surgery for a heel injury.
According to the BCCI statement, the fast bowler had successful surgery on February 26th, 2024, to address his right heel problem. He is currently under the monitoring of the BCCI medical team and is consequently ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Prasidh and Shami’s absence from the IPL 2024 season may significantly hinder their prospects of playing for the Indian team in the T20 World Cup, which follows immediately after the conclusion of the T20 league.
