IPL 2024 Latest News Today: In a massive setback for the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Devon Conway has been ruled out for the tournament due to an injury. The New Zealand opener suffered a thumb injury during a T20 match against Australia last month.

A PTI report says that now it has been confirmed that the 32-year-old is scheduled to undergo an operation to fix his left thumb. Giving a timeline of his recovery, New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said that Conway will be ‘good’ sometime after eight-week period. Chennai Super Kings had bought Conway for a base price of Rs 1 crore during the 2022 IPL auction. The left-handed batsman has scored 924 runs in 23 matches during the IPL. He has a strike rate of 141. 28 with an average of 46.12.

IPL 2024 Opener: CSK vs RCB

The IPL is set to commence on March 22, featuring a match between defending champions CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While the schedule for the first 21 matches has been revealed, the fixtures for the remaining games will be announced in due course.

While CSK will have to come up with a new strategy to find a suitable replacement of Conway, speculations are rife over fate of Virat Kohli’s status for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
