IPL Playoff Scenarios: Sunrisers Hyderabad, which are currently placed at number 4 in the IPL points table, are scheduled to play against Gujarat Titans at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Uppal tonight. While odds favour the Orange Army, there are chances that the match may be abandoned. The reason? Bad weather. According to the latest weather updates, Hyderabad may witness a massive thunderstorm tonight.
The AccuWeather.com report says that while the temperature will be in the range of 28 to 30 degree C and there are chances of the temperature further dipping due to heavy rains. The AccuWeather report says that at 87 per cent, Hyderabad is almost set to witness a huge thunderstorm along with a thunderstorm. Right now, not just Hyderabad but the entire Southern Region of India is witnessing cloudy weather and intermittent rains. India’s Met department has predicted all-important Monsoons to hit the Indians shores by 31st May.
So how does the weather affect the playoff math for Sunrisers Hyderabad? Not much actually. In case the match is abandoned just like what happened in Ahmedabad, both teams – SRH and GT – will share one point each. And this one point will help SRH qualify for the playoffs.
However, Pat Cummins and co would like to win this match as it may help them finish in top two of the points table thanks to an improved NRR as compared with RR that suffered fourth consecutive loss yesterday in Guwahati. But in case GT springs a surprise and win this match then the situation may get complicated for SRH. Then their last league match, which is scheduled against Punjab Kings will become a must-win.
And amid all this, we must not forget that there are teams such as RCB, DC and defending champions CSK in the mix as well. So far, only two teams have qualified for the playoffs. They are – Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. The IPL 2024 finale will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium aka Chepauk on May 26.
