Gujarat Titans’ star all-rounder Rashid Khan reached a major milestone on Tuesday, becoming one of the fastest bowlers to take 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League. The Afghan spin wizard achieved the feat during Gujarat Titans’ clash against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Rashid struck in the seventh over, removing Punjab opener Priyansh Arya with a well-judged catch by Sai Sudharsan. With this dismissal, Rashid became the third-fastest bowler in IPL history to claim 150 wickets, achieving the mark in just 122 matches. Only Lasith Malinga (105 matches) and Yuzvendra Chahal (118 matches) reached the milestone quicker.
Following Rashid in the rankings is Mumbai Indians’ pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who needed 124 matches for 150 wickets. Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 137 and 138 games, respectively, to achieve the same feat.
In the match, Punjab Kings posted a mammoth 243/5 after being invited to bat first by Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill. Shreyas Iyer led the charge with a blistering 97 off just 37 balls, smashing five fours and nine sixes. Priyansh Arya (47) and Shashank Singh (44) also made valuable contributions.
For Gujarat, Sai Kishore took three wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan picked up one each. Despite Rashid’s milestone, the Titans could not chase the target and lost their tournament opener by 11 runs.
