In the ninth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 12 runs on Thursday in Jaipur. With this win, the domination of home teams continues in the tournament. This is the ninth consecutive match where the home team has won the match.
One major factor behind the Royals’ victory today was Riyan Parag, who was later awarded the Player of the Match title.
Today, Delhi captain Rishabh Pant played his 100th match for the franchise, the only player to achieve the milestone. However, he failed to deliver a memorable performance, a regret even Pant carried after his dismissal at 28.
RR v DC IPL 2024: A breakdown of the match
The match began with Delhi Capital opting for bowling. Young talent Riyan Parag showcased his brilliance with a spectacular unbeaten innings of 84 runs from just 45 balls, guiding Rajasthan Royals to a 12-run victory against Delhi Capitals in their IPL match.
Despite a shaky start that saw RR at 36 for 3 in the eighth over, the 22-year-old Parag took charge, leading his team to a formidable total of 185 for 5 with an impressive display of seven fours and six sixes. Before Parag took the matter into his own hands, it was R Ashwin who revived Rajasthan’s hopes with his quick blasts. What essentially proved to be deadly was Parag mining 25 runs off the last over.
In pursuit of 186 runs for victory, Delhi Capitals fell short, managing only 173 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. At one point, all hopes were pinned on David Warner who seemed to be carrying the team on his shoulders. Warner and Pant even put up a decent partnership of 67 runs. However, soon Warner was dismissed and fell one run short of his fifty.
Despite a valiant effort from South African youngster Tristan Stubbs towards the end, who scored 44 not out of 23 balls, DC couldn’t surpass the target, needing 17 runs from the final over. Avesh Khan’s tight bowling in the 20th over, conceding just four runs, proved crucial in securing RR’s second consecutive win.
Contributions from South African pacer Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal, who claimed two wickets each, also played a significant role in Rajasthan Royals’ triumph.

Post RR vs DC match, the Chennai Super Kings stand tall in the first position, while Rajasthan Royals have maintained their place in second. The list is followed by Sunrise Hyderabad in third and Kolkata Knight Riders at the fourth position. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals, yet to open their account, remain in the eighth place with zero points.
