After securing a victory against the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Colonel Vinod Bisht, the CEO of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), provided an update on the injury sustained by their pace bowler Mayank Yadav during Sunday’s match.

During Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) victory over the Gujarat Titans, there was considerable anticipation surrounding Mayank Yadav’s bowling performance among fans. Known for his impressive pace, accuracy, and consistent deliveries exceeding 150 kmph, Yadav failed to maintain his usual form during the GT clash. Struggling to reach his usual bowling speeds, barely touching 140 kmph, he conceded three boundaries in his only over. Subsequently, after completing his over, Mayank Yadav left the field.

“Mayank felt soreness in the lower abdominal area and as a precaution, we are managing his workload over the next week. We hope to see him soon in the field,” Vinod Bisht said in an official statement.

This means that the pacer will not be available for the matches against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, scheduled for April 12 and April 14, respectively.

In a span of just two to three matches, Mayank has made waves with his exceptional pace, consistently clocking bowling speeds of over 150 kmph. In the match against RCB, Yadav showcased his skills by claiming three wickets in his four-over spell, conceding a mere 14 runs. His outstanding performance earned him the well-deserved title of ‘Player of the Match’.

At the young age of 21, the LSG seamer etched his name in history by becoming the first bowler in IPL history to clinch the ‘Player of the Match’ award in their first two matches.

Mayank Yadav’s lightning speed breaks IPL record

In the clash against RCB, he reached a staggering speed of 156.7 kph, marking the fastest delivery in the current edition and the fourth fastest in the tournament’s entire history. This achievement surpassed his previous record set during his debut match with the Punjab Kings, where he clocked 155.8 kmph. In his debut game, he displayed remarkable bowling skills, securing figures of 3/27 in four overs.

Many see Mayank as India’s next big fast bowling hope not just because of his speed, but also because of his impressive accuracy and ability to intimidate batsmen, all evident in just a few matches.
