In a memorable 100th Test appearance, Ashwin left an indelible mark by scalping five wickets in England’s second innings, adding to his impressive four-wicket haul in the initial innings. England’s batting lineup struggled once more, managing scores of 218 and 195 in their respective innings, while India amassed a formidable total of 477 on the same pitch.
Notably, openers Rohit Sharma (103) and Shubman Gill (110) notched centuries, complemented by noteworthy contributions from debutant Devdutt Padikkal (65), Yashasvi Jaiswal (57), and Sarfaraz Khan (56), who all scored half-centuries.
Despite England’s subpar performance, veteran seamer James Anderson reached a significant milestone by claiming his 700th Test wicket during the match.
