The Indian women’s hockey team booked their place in the Asia Cup final after a dramatic Super 4s phase in Hangzhou. India drew 1-1 with defending champions Japan and then had to wait for the outcome of the China vs Korea match. When China beat Korea 1-0, the result cemented India’s spot in Sunday’s summit clash against the hosts.
When and where to watch
The final will be played on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Hangzhou, China, at 5:30 PM IST. Fans in India can follow the live stream on the website or app of watch.hockey. There will be no live television broadcast in India. The winner of the match will not only bag the Asia Cup crown but also secure qualification for the 2026 Women’s World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.
India made a bright start against Japan with Beauty Dung Dung delivering a field goal in the seventh minute. That early strike gave India an advantage, but the Japanese stayed in the contest and created several chances. India’s defence, headed by goalkeeper Bichu Devi, held firm through most of the game.
However, the heartbreaking moment came when there were just two minutes left on the clock. Japan’s Kobayakawa Shiho latched onto a ball from captain Amiru Shimada and scored the equaliser, leaving India in distress. This was the second time the two sides had shared points in the tournament, following their pool-stage match, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
India had chances late in the match, including penalty corners, but failed to convert. The 1-1 result meant India’s fate depended on the outcome of the other Super 4s game. Korea needed to beat China by two goals to push India away, but the host prevailed 1-0. That victory confirmed India’s position in the final clash.
China top Super 4s, India finish second
With registering three wins out of three, China topped the Super 4s table on nine points. India ended second with four points, Japan with two points, and Korea with one point. The outcome set up a rematch of their earlier encounter, where China had beaten India by a 4-1 score.
Despite the loss, India remains confident. Coach Harendra Singh’s side showed strength throughout the group and Super 4s stages.
