India’s fast-bowling ace Jasprit Bumrah, experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, and rising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal were named in the ICC’s 2024 Test Team of the Year on Friday.

The lineup includes four players from England and two from New Zealand, with Kane Williamson among them.

Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, is the only Australian featured and has been named captain of the all-star team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (India)

Yashasvi Jaiswal cemented his status as a top Test opener for India in 2024. After a tough South Africa series, he made a remarkable comeback against England at home, scoring 712 runs, including two double centuries. Jaiswal continued his form with three half-centuries against Bangladesh and a brilliant 161 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He finished the year with 1,478 runs at an impressive average of 54.74.

Ben Duckett (England)

Ben Duckett played a pivotal role in England’s success in 2024. Starting the year with a tour of India, he emerged as England’s highest run-scorer, amassing 343 runs, including a superb 153 in Rajkot. Duckett continued his fine form in series against West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, scoring consistently. He finished the year with 1,149 runs at an average of 37.06, ranking as the third-highest run-scorer behind Joe Root and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Kane Williamson (New Zealand)

Despite an injury-plagued year, Kane Williamson showcased his brilliance in 2024. He began with twin centuries against South Africa and ended with a stunning 395-run series against England. Although he struggled during the Australia series, he bounced back with key performances against Sri Lanka and England. Williamson’s consistency earned him 1,013 runs at an average of 59.58, finishing as New Zealand’s top scorer and the sixth-highest overall.

Joe Root (England)

Joe Root maintained his dominance in Test cricket in 2024, finishing as the year’s top run-scorer with 1,556 runs at an average of 55.57. After a challenging start in India, Root regained his form, scoring heavily against West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. His highlight came in the Sri Lanka series, where he broke Alastair Cook’s record for most Test centuries by an English player. Root also forged a record-breaking partnership with Harry Brook in Pakistan and ended the year with 218 runs in New Zealand.

Harry Brook (England)

Harry Brook emerged as England’s rising star in 2024. After missing the India tour, he returned with a century against West Indies and continued his form against Sri Lanka. Brook’s breakthrough moment came in Pakistan, where he shared a 454-run partnership with Joe Root, scoring a triple century. He followed it up with two centuries against New Zealand, finishing the year with 1,100 runs at an average of 55.

Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka)

Kamindu Mendis returned to Test cricket in 2024 with a string of impressive performances. He started with centuries in both innings against Bangladesh and finished the series as the top scorer. Mendis continued to shine against England, where he accumulated 267 runs, including a century. His form carried into the New Zealand series, where he notched two more centuries, including a career-best 182*. Mendis finished the year with 1,049 runs at an average of 74.92, establishing himself as Sri Lanka’s key player.

Jamie Smith (England)

Jamie Smith had a stellar debut year for England in 2024 as a wicketkeeper-batter. He made an immediate impact with 70 runs in his debut match against West Indies and followed up with a maiden century against Sri Lanka. Smith continued his form with valuable contributions against Pakistan, where he scored a gritty 89. Behind the stumps, he took 32 dismissals, including 31 catches. Overall, Smith amassed 637 runs at an average of 42.46, solidifying his spot as England’s first-choice wicketkeeper in Tests.

Ravindra Jadeja (India)

Ravindra Jadeja had a remarkable year in 2024, showcasing his all-round brilliance. He started strong with 89 runs and five wickets against England and continued with a century in Rajkot. Jadeja’s bowling shone against Bangladesh and New Zealand, taking 16 wickets, including a 10-wicket haul in Mumbai. He contributed 77 runs in Australia and finished the year with 527 runs and 48 wickets.

Pat Cummins (Australia)

Pat Cummins, named the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year captain, led Australia to a historic 3-1 victory over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Cummins was exceptional with both bat and ball, taking 25 wickets in the series and scoring 158 runs. He also played a key role in Australia’s series wins against West Indies and New Zealand. Cummins ended the year with 37 wickets at an average of 24.02, along with 306 runs.

Matt Henry (New Zealand)

Matt Henry had an outstanding year in 2024, taking 48 wickets at an average of 18.58. His standout performances included 17 wickets in the home series against Australia, followed by 10 wickets in the spin-friendly pitches of India. Henry capped off the year with 15 wickets against England in a three-Test series. His ability to consistently deliver in key moments made him one of New Zealand’s top performers.

Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Jasprit Bumrah was unstoppable in 2024, taking 71 wickets at an incredible average of 14.92. He began with 19 wickets against England, followed by 11 wickets against Bangladesh. Despite a subdued series against New Zealand, Bumrah led India to victory in Perth against Australia, taking 5/30. He continued his dominance throughout the series, with match-winning performances in Adelaide and Brisbane. Bumrah’s ability to deliver in crucial moments cemented his legacy as one of the all-time greats, and he ended the year as the highest wicket-taker.
