The social media was flooded with posts and reactions from eminent personalities, sportspersons and fans after India faced a six-wicket defeat to the Australian side, who marched on to win their sixth world title. Mohd Shami on Monday posted a heartfelt message on social media, calling the defeat a tough pill to swallow. His post read, “You win some, you lose some. Tough pill to swallow for us but we have our heads held high. Proud of this team & thanks for all the love and support keep supporting & loving.”

Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Australia for their World Cup victory, saying they played better cricket on the most important day of the biggest stage. He added that he could imagine the agony of the players and the fans.

His post read, “Congratulations to Australia on their sixth World Cup win. On the most important day of the biggest stage, they played better cricket. 

Hard luck Team India, just one bad day in an otherwise sterling tournament can be heartbreaking. I can imagine the agony of the players, fans and well-wishers and what they must be going through. Losses are a part of the sport but let us remember that this unit gave their all for us throughout the tournament.”


Other players including Virender Sehwag, Ravi Shastri, and other veterans backed the Indian team for their great campaign. Meanwhile, former English cricketer Michael Vaughan congratulated Australia, calling it their best World Cup victory since it came in front of the Indian audience. 

He posted, “Well done Australia .. an incredible achievement against all the odds against a great team in their own backyard. I have this as the greatest World Cup victory for a team .. to win here in #India is the hardest place to claim the trophy .. #CWC2023Final”


Australia won the final against India, sealing their sixth World Cup title and re-asserting their dominance in the world cricket by winning the World Test Championship and Cricket World Cup in the same year.
