Australian all-rounders Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland have withdrawn from the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) citing personal reasons, the league said on Tuesday (December 23).
Perry was set to represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), while Sutherland was part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad for the next edition of the tournament, which begins in January.
RCB, DC announce replacements
In a statement, the WPL confirmed that India all-rounder Sayali Satghare will replace Perry at RCB, while Australian leg-spinner Alana King has been named as Sutherland’s replacement at DC.
“Australian all-rounders Ellyse Perry (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Annabel Sutherland (Delhi Capitals) have withdrawn from the upcoming edition of the league due to personal reasons,” the WPL said.
Satghare will join RCB at her reserve price of Rs 30 lakh. DC, meanwhile, have signed King at a reserve price of Rs 60 lakh. The Australian leg-spinner previously represented UP Warriorz and has featured in 27 T20 Internationals, picking up 27 wickets.
UP Warriorz make change too
UP Warriorz have also been forced into a squad change, with left-arm seamer Tara Norris replaced by Australian all-rounder Charlie Knott.
Norris, who played for Delhi Capitals in the inaugural WPL season in 2023, has been named in the USA squad for next year’s Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier to be held in Nepal. Knott has been signed by UP Warriorz at a reserve price of Rs 10 lakh.
Tournament dates and venues
The fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League will be held in two legs at Navi Mumbai and Vadodara, running from January 9 to February 5. While the tournament opener will be played in Navi Mumbai, the final will be played in Vadodara.
Mumbai Indians (MI) enter the tournament as the defending champions while Delhi Capitals (DC) finished as the runners-up in the last season, much like they did in the previous two editions before that. RCB had won the title in 2024 while it was MI who had clinched the inaugural title.
