In the aftermath of the stampede at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council has decided to establish a committee to draft comprehensive guidelines for post-match victory celebrations.

The decision was taken during the 28th BCCI Apex Council Meeting held on Saturday. “In light of the incident that occurred during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, the Apex Council has decided to constitute a committee to formulate comprehensive guidelines aimed at preventing such occurrences in the future,” the BCCI said in an official press release.

The three-member committee will be chaired by BCCI Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia and include members Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and Rajeev Shukla. The panel has been tasked with preparing the guidelines within 15 days.

The move comes after a stampede on June 3 during RCB’s IPL 2025 title celebration near the Chinnaswamy Stadium left 11 people dead and 33 injured. Fans had gathered in large numbers to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic first IPL title win, following their six-run victory over Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the aftermath, the Karnataka Police filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, RCB and other parties involved in organising the event.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called the incident a “major tragedy” and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, along with free treatment for the injured.
