After two days of India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, the tensions between the BCCI and ACC are still high. It flared on Wednesday after senior BCCI representatives Ashish Shelar and Rajeev Shukla staged a walkout from an ACC meeting, protesting the delay in handing over the Asia Cup trophy and players’ medals to Team India.

According to officials, Shelar and Shukla pressed ACC president and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi for clarity on when the trophy and medals would be delivered. However, Naqvi reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory answer. A top BCCI official told IE, “Shelar informed members that BCCI secretary Devajit Sakia has already written to the ACC, but there has been no response. The board wants the trophy and medals to be sent to ACC’s Dubai office for collection. Since there was no positive response, the two decided to quit the meeting in protest.” Naqvi is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister.

Controversial India and Pak Asia Cup campaign

The dispute follows an already tense tournament marred by controversy. Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav declined to shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Agha at the toss, while after the final, Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi. The team said they will accept the trophy from a neutral official instead.

Suryakumar later revealed that the squad waited nearly an hour outside the dressing room in Dubai to collect the trophy but returned empty-handed after refusing Naqvi’s presentation.

PCB cancels NOCs for playing in foreign T20 leagues

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly suspended all no-objection certificates for players seeking to participate in T20 leagues abroad. While the board has not provided an official reason, the notification came a day after Pakistan’s Asia Cup final defeat to India, according to ESPNCricinfo. The report suggested that the PCB is planning to link future NOCs to a performance-based system. PCB could potentially make approvals contingent on Pakistani players’ contributions in domestic and international matches.
