Royal Challengers Bengaluru revealed changes to its lineup for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League on Saturday — releasing six players including Liam Livingstone and Lungi Ngidi. The defending champions also opted to retain Yash Dayal despite recent sexual abuse allegations and his somewhat murky future in competitive cricket. The 27-year-old has not played in any format since the IPL 2025 final that saw RCB defeat Punjab Kings to lift their maiden trophy.

“Retained: They gave us our first trophy, and they’re coming home to do it all over again. Presenting, the first 17 entrants of RCB’s Class of 2026, ready to play bold and entertain the best fans in the world,” the team wrote on X while sharing a collage.

The backlash was nearly instantaneous — with many on social media holding the team accountable in case Dayal faced conviction. The IPL franchise did not offer any explanation and it remains unclear whether RCB will communicate with the BCCI regarding the ongoing allegations.

Many on social media deemed the team “unethical” after the announcement — linking the current issue to the Bengaluru stampede that overshadowed their 2025 win. Others made extensive use of emojis and GIFs to make their displeasure clear via social media.

“They have retained Yash Dayal. What a shameless fellows, man. If he is convicted in the future…you are literally backing a player who has a POSCO case against him. You should all share the blame with him…Donkeys,” wrote one X user.

“Retained Dayal? What an absolute disgrace. At least have a spine and make the right call,” read one outraged X comment.

“Yash Dayal: Kicked by his state team. Kicked by his state league. Retained by RCB. These criminals are not hated enough,” fumed a third.
