India’s women’s hockey team clinched their third Asian Champions Trophy title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over China in the 2024 final. The thrilling match, held on Wednesday, was decided by a crucial goal from young striker Deepika.
She scored the lone goal of the game in the 31st minute from a penalty corner, helping India retain the title they had previously won in 2016 and 2023.
Deepika also finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 11 goals. Earlier in the competition, India had defeated China 3-0 in the league stage. For China, this was their third runner-up finish, while Japan claimed third place with a convincing 4-1 win over Malaysia in the third-place play-off.
India’s victory is a testament to their strong performance and continued dominance in Asian women’s hockey.
