India vs New Zealand: India’s captain Rohit Sharma has had a forgettable streak at the toss, losing 11 coin flips in a row in ODIs. However, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes this trend should continue in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand, suggesting that India should let the Kiwis decide their course of action in the title clash.
Ashwin, India’s second-highest wicket-taker in international cricket, expressed confidence in Rohit Sharma and Co., labeling them as favorites but acknowledging that New Zealand won’t be an easy opponent.
Ashwin’s Take on Rohit’s Toss Luck
Speaking on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat,’ Ashwin stated that since India have successfully chased and defended totals in the tournament, they should not worry about the toss outcome.
“In my opinion, India shouldn’t aim to win the toss. I’d say let them lose it, allowing New Zealand to choose what they want to do. India would be comfortable either way since they’ve successfully defended and chased before,” Ashwin remarked.
He assessed India’s chances as 54-46 in favor of Rohit’s team, pointing out that while New Zealand’s bowlers have troubled India in the past, the Men in Blue remain the stronger side heading into the Dubai final on March 9.
Kane Williamson vs. Ravindra Jadeja – A Key Battle
Ashwin also highlighted the contest between Kane Williamson and Ravindra Jadeja as one of the most crucial battles of the final. He noted that Williamson’s batting technique against left-arm spinners could be tested by Jadeja’s pace and accuracy.
“If you are a cricket connoisseur, then Kane Williamson vs. Ravindra Jadeja is the most fascinating battle. Kane Williamson moves towards the leg stump to counter Jadeja, knowing he troubles him. Sometimes, he steps out and plays the chip shot over extra cover or tries to cut on the back foot. It’s a cat-and-mouse game,” Ashwin said.
He further explained that Jadeja’s quicker deliveries and high release point make it difficult for Williamson to play conventional shots like the traditional sweep or cut shot, which could prove to be decisive in the final.
India vs New Zealand: The Road to Glory
Both India and New Zealand have had an impressive run in the eight-team tournament. India defeated the Black Caps in the group stage, but New Zealand have a history of upsetting India in ICC knockout games, making this contest even more intense.
As the teams gear up for the high-stakes final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, all eyes will be on whether Rohit Sharma can finally win a toss or if the Kiwis will once again dictate the play. Regardless of the toss result, India’s confidence and form could be the key to clinching another ICC title.
