Xiaomi has begun the rollout of its latest MIUI 9.2 for four of its old smartphones, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note, Redmi Note Prime, and Redmi 1S. With this move, Xiaomi is delivering on its promise to update nearly all of its devices in the MIUI 9 release roadmap. The new MIUI 9 is rolling out as a stable version on all four devices – Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Xiaomi Redmi Note, Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime, and Xiaomi Redmi 1S. While the last three Xiaomi devices are older than the Redmi Note 3, the MIUI 9.2 will bring additional features to all of them.
Last year in November, Xiaomi said that the MIUI 9 will be the last update for its devices that were launched in 2014-2015, which include Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Xiaomi Redmi Note, and Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime. These Xiaomi smartphones received MIUI 8.5 about 5-6 months ago. Coming to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, it was launched in 2015 powered by a MediaTek processor, however, the Snapdragon-powered variant was released in February 2016. Xiaomi on its MIUI forum officially announced the MIUI 9.2 rollout for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 while the MIUI 9.2 rollout on the older Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, and Redmi Note Prime was reported by the users on the forum.
First, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 MIUI 9.2 update has begun rolling out to the users and the company said that it would take about 48-72 hours for the users to receive the update. The MIUI 9.2 update for Redmi Note 3 bears a version MIUI 9.2.4.0.MHOMIEK and brings several enhancements and features. However, the Android version of this update is still Marshmallow, unlike the regular Android 7.0 Nougat that other Xiaomi handsets are receiving in the MIUI 9.2 rollout. Nevertheless, the update is 290MB in size and brings some interface improvements. There is a new Mi Drop app, refreshed Security app, and an overhauled Mi Mover app that now supports instant resume feature in case of interrupted data migration process. The Dual Apps feature is also refreshed to enable apps search, in addition to a new Game Speed booster mode.
The older Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, and Redmi Note Prime are also reportedly receiving the MIUI 9.2 update. However, this update is still based on Android KitKat and doesn’t upgrade the device to a higher Android version. Due to the Android version, there are only limited features that have been rolled out to these devices. The new MIUI version for Redmi 1S is MIUI 9.2.2.0.KHCMIEK, Redmi Note is MIUI 9.2.2.0.KHIMIEK, and for Redmi Note Prime is MIUI 9.2.3.0.KHKMIEK while the update for all three devices is around 150-200 MB in size. Surprisingly, the MIUI 9.2 update doesn’t update the Android Security patch as all the devices are still running the October 2016 Android Security patch, in addition to the VoLTE support that is now a standard feature. The new Mi Mover is available in the update, along with other UI changes. The entire changelog can be seen in the MIUI forum post.
