Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asserted that the NDA government in its third term would show added resolve and energy, and take major decisions that would pave the way for making India a developed nation (Viksit Bharat).

Addressing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in New Delhi after the poll results showed the NDA is poised to retain power with a reduced majority, Modi vowed to improve the conditions of all people, regardless of their caste and religion. He said that India’s electorate has “created history” by giving an incumbent government a mandate to rule for the third consecutive time, for the first time after 1962.

Stating that the two successive governments headed by him in the past decade successfully took 250 million out of poverty, the prime minister said his third term will see major reforms, which shall put India’s economy on the third place globally.

Currently, India is the fifth largest economy in nominal terms, and the fastest growing among the major economies.

The prime minister mentioned that the NDA government will work to provide more opportunities to women, enhance production of mobile phones, semiconductors, and defence products, strengthen India’s youths capabilities, and frame modern policies for the farm sector.

He also said that the coming years are going to be a “green era”, and hence green investments are going to rise – both in energy and mobility. “India’s responsibility is to provide global supply chain stability and diversity,” Modi said.

On corruption, Modi said that in the NDA’s third term, the government will focus on rooting out all kinds of corruption. “Digital India and technology has closed many doors of corruption, but a constant attack on it is required,” he said.

Meanwhile, talking about the past decade, the PM said that under his tenure India’s economy was able to emerge from a “fragile five” to the fastest growing major economy.

“We ran the biggest welfare schemes for the people of India,” Modi said. He mentioned that in the past decade 120 million Indians got tap water; 40 million received houses; 800 million got free food; and 120 million got free medical services.

Moreover, the government undertook major reforms in the banking sector and passed significant legislation such as the Goods and Services Tax, and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

“Friends, today’s moment is an emotional moment for me”, said the Prime Minister, in his speech. “My first election after my mother’s demise, but believe me all mothers of the country didn’t make me feel motherless,” he said while adding that all-record by women-voters were shattered in this election.
